Squirrel Forest Campaign in Jühnsdorf
The LPV (Landschaftspflegeverein/ Countryside Trust) Mittelbrandenburg e.V. has also taken part in this year’s Squirrel Forest Campaign. That is – the first part of the event took place, namely collecting the acorns. Sowing will take place next spring, and of course we will be reporting on that, too!
A “Squirrel Puzzle Hike”
On the 9th and 13th November both campaign guides Ilona Boesel and Sabine Zimmermann, together with district forester Parsiegla and 15 children respectively from the primary schools in Rangdorf and Dabendorf set off on a squirrel puzzle hike in Jühnsdorf district forest. The children played at being squirrels and collected acorns for the coming winter. For every 10 acorns they found they were rewarded with some nuts!
To Be Continued!
Unlike at the other events the supplies of acorns, which had been collected, were not sown straight away. Instead they are going to ‘hibernate’ and be used next spring. The LPV will be holding an ‘Environment Week’, during which the second part of this Squirrel Forest Campaign event will be completed when the acorns are sown.
We will, of course, keep you up-to-date with what is going on in Jühnsdorf next spring!
